Lambert’s girls basketball team ended up on the wrong side of a blowout against the Roswell Hornets, losing 51-26 on Friday night.
Roswell jumped out to an early lead to start the game, and Lambert stayed in its rearview mirror until the final buzzer.
The Longhorns just couldn’t match Roswell’s offense or rebounding and were forced to shoot almost exclusively from outside the arc.
Lambert couldn’t find any success in the post against a Hornets team that had a clear height advantage on the inside.
Roswell’s height not only allowed them to easily out-rebound Lambert, but it also helped them get plenty of easy points from right under the basket.
Lambert also didn’t do themselves any favors by committing their fair share of unnecessary fouls.
"We’re a young team and we made a lot of young mistakes," Lambert girls coach Brian Moon said. "I’m an optimistic guy though and hopefully we can start eliminating some of those mistakes going forward.”
Heading into halftime, the Hornets had taken control of the game, leading the Longhorns 30-10.
Roswell’s offense didn’t slow down in the second half, but Lambert also finally started getting shots to drop.
Unfortunately for the Longhorns, once they were able to start scoring it was already too late for any hope of a comeback.
After Friday’s loss, Lambert now sat at a 3-5 overall record approaching the halfway point of the season. That’s not an ideal position to be in, but there’s still plenty of time left for the Longhorns to turn things around.
“We’re just going to keep working every day,” Moon said. “Hopefully we’ll have a good attitude about it and keep getting better.”
